“There are so many ways to volunteer our time and talents, both within our church and out in the community, and it fills our hearts with joy.” – Nancy and Jim
Within the greater Brooklyn communities, nearly 8,000 children and youth receive subsidized or free school lunches due to family income levels. During the summer, however, these children are not at school and thus often don’t get regular, healthy lunches. SUNNY helps to provide these much needed meals. Since the start of our SUNNY program four years ago, we’ve served over 25,000 meals to our guests.
The Brooklyn communities have witnessed the great event that is the Mega Sale every year since 2010. We saw that our community was in need and we wanted to help. In Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park, there is a large number of immigrants to the area who need help stocking their homes with essentials such as furniture and kitchen supplies, as well as needing clothes, books, and toys for their every-growing children! The Mega Sale draws hundreds to BUMC’s doors every summer. On top of this, BUMC donates 10% of profits to community charities such as CEAP and the youth homeless center.
